Szczecin neighbourhoods: pick your base and places to wander

Szczecin's neighbourhoods split neatly between places to wander and places to sleep. Łasztownia is the outlier: an open quayside island south of the Old Town, reached on foot from the Odra embankments, with river views back towards the city and the philharmonic, plus events at Event Arena Szczecin. Allow about an hour.

The other three are residential and sit away from the centre. Pogodno, in the west, is a loose loop of villas, 1930s housing and university faculties past the stadium and church quarter; set aside half a day because its draws are spread out and quiet. Pomorzany, south-west of the centre, has no old-town core but works as a quiet base with a park, supermarkets and tram and bus stops minutes away. Niebuszewo, in the north, is not a sightseeing area at all and only suits a peaceful overnight stay if you accept walking or travelling into the centre.

Łasztownia, Szczecin: the Island District Guide

An open quayside island south of the Old Town, reached by walking across from the Odra embankments. Come for river views back towards the city and the philharmonic, or an event at Event Arena Szczecin; there is little else here.

Pogodno, Szczecin: villas, university streets and green corners

A residential western district of villas, 1930s housing and university faculties, best walked as a loose loop past the stadium and church quarter. Its draws are spread out and quiet, so set aside half a day rather than expecting a cluster of sights.

Pomorzany, Szczecin: a neighbourhood guide for a city break

  • The railway station building at Szczecin Niebuszewo.

Niebuszewo, Szczecin: a district guide for a short city break

A residential district in Szczecin's north, not a sightseeing area in itself: it works for a quiet, cheaper-feeling overnight stay only if you accept walking or travelling into the centre for the main sights.

Which side of Szczecin suits your stay

For riverfront walks and harbour views, head straight for Łasztownia; it rewards an hour and nothing more. If you prefer quiet walks and campus atmosphere, base yourself around Pogodno and give it half a day on foot. Pomorzany makes sense for longer stays when you want a quiet everyday base with a park close by, while Niebuszewo is for travellers who value a peaceful overnight stop over proximity to the sights.
