Katowice neighbourhoods: plan where to stay and what to see
Katowice's districts sort themselves by what they ask of you. Koszutka, the smallest, sits just north of the centre and gives up its 1930s functionalist villas, socialist-realist blocks and leafy courtyards in about two hours on foot, with no ticketed sights to book.
South of the centre, Brynów is anchored by the 72-hectare Park Kościuszki, where a 16th-century wooden church and a parachute tower share the hillside. A motorway belt separates it from Śródmieście, so a tram or bus beats walking from the main square; allow half a day.
Ligota, joined with Panewniki in the south, has its own rail station and quiet evenings, though the central sights are several kilometres away — roughly half an hour door to door. Zawodzie, in the east, works as a cheaper base with public transport into the centre for sights, restaurants and bars.
Dąb is ordinary western housing with no sights of its own; the library branch at ul. Grzyśki 19a is its one fixed point, handy for orientation rather than a day out.

Brynów, Katowice: the green hillside district around Park Kościuszki
A residential hillside quarter south of the centre, anchored by the 72-hectare Park Kościuszki with its 16th-century wooden church and parachute tower. A motorway belt separates it from Śródmieście, so take a tram or bus rather than walking from the main square.

Ligota, Katowice: District Guide for a Short City Break
A residential district in southern Katowice joined with Panewniki, useful if you want quiet evenings and your own rail station. Bear in mind the central sights are several kilometres off, so plan on about half an hour door to door.

Zawodzie, Katowice: District Guide for Visitors
Zawodzie is a residential district in eastern Katowice rather than a sightseeing quarter, so treat it as a cheaper, quieter base and expect to take public transport to the centre for sights, restaurants and bars.
Best for repeat and budget travellers

Dąb, Katowice: the district, what's there and who it suits
Dąb is ordinary western housing with no sights of its own, so it will not fill a city-break day. The one fixed point worth noting is the library branch at ul. Grzyśki 19a, useful for orientation if you are in the area.
Best for returning visitors and library errands
Which side of Katowice fits your trip
For architecture on foot with nothing to book, Koszutka earns its two hours. Families with prams or bikes should head for Brynów and Park Kościuszki, a half-day outing reached by tram or bus. Ligota suits anyone wanting quiet evenings and a rail link, at the cost of a half-hour journey to the centre. Zawodzie is the budget option, with restaurants and bars a short ride away. Dąb has no sights, so skip it unless you need the library at ul. Grzyśki 19a.
